Job Description
The African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), based at Redeemer’s University Nigeria, is driving biomedical innovation at the leading edge of pathogen surveillance, diagnostics, and outbreak response. Established in 2014 by the World Bank Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) program and supported by the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) consortium, the ACEGID platform is building genomics pipelines, advancing our understanding of microbial threats, and training the next generation of African scientists. We are seeking a motivated professional with outstanding management skills and a passion for global health to help lead an international research effort crossing the boundaries of science, education, and global health on genomic surveillance in West Africa.
The Laboratory Supply Chain and Inventory Manager must have a keen interest in laboratory and research related activities. The ideal candidate is responsible for laboratory and operational procurement activities, including searching suitable suppliers, for sourcing goods and services, managing vendors, analyzing purchase requisitions, coordinating logistics for supply movement and processing purchase orders whilst assisting to track the received and existing inventory across the company. The ideal candidate is responsible will support the laboratory manager in managing the inventory operations of all the laboratory units at ACEGID and surrounding satellite sites in Nigeria which include: Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (Ebonyi state), Federal Medical Centre - Owo (Ondo state), Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (Edo State) and General Hospital Ikorodu (Lagos state).
Characteristic Duties
- Work closely with the laboratory manager and procurement team to order and receive lab consumables and equipment.
- Verification, inspection, and acceptance of all requested items as they arrive and check quality and conformity against documentation.
- Liaise with the project manager in checking expenditure within project budgets.
- Liaise with the audit team to cite and verify purchase orders, invoices, delivery notes with the number of items supplied.
- Liaise with external logistics and shipping agents and for shipment, clearing and delivery of items.
- Lead regular inventory audits process to determine inventory levels and needs.
- Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
- Lead disbursement of requested items/consumables to the various laboratory units, which includes management of logistics and deployment of operational vehicles to project sites.
- Manage the replenishment of supplies through a systematic manner considering lead time, consumption and minimum supply levels.
- Manage overall direction, coordination and evaluation of procurement.
- Develop key relationships with vendors and strategic supply partners to improve lead times and purchase flexibility.
- Develop supplier databases and establish annual purchasing contracts for items.
- Provide periodic reporting for management on purchasing, controls and processes
- Ensure and execute workflow process for procurement in line with inventory management system or LIMS software.
- Catalog laboratory equipment assets and organize maintenance and certification visits.
- Advise senior management improvements to the procurement process
- Ensure preparation of monthly inventory reports.
- Ensure preparation of annual procurement audit reports.
- Ensure that clear and organized records of reports and invoices are filed and stored properly.
- Ensure inflow and distribution of laboratory supplies across all offices sites including Ebonyi, Osun, Ondo, Edo and Lagos.
Complete other tasks as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in sciences or related field.
- Advanced degree such as MSc in life sciences, biological or health sciences is an added advantage
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in a biological, health sciences, pharmaceutical or research institute in laboratory inventory and supply chain management.
- Experience in the acquisition of medical or biological research supplies, equipment, commodities, or services involving a competitive bidding and negotiation process.
- Experience working on international procurement transactions.
- Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, swiftly changing entrepreneurial environment; preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In depth understanding of laboratory equipment, consumables, and reagents.
- Strong knowledge of scientific and diagnostics materials supply and procurement.
- Strong ability to use and/or develop LIMS systems.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Adherence to time and priority management.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in analyzing information and data, and compiling reports.
Can seamlessly work with Google Suites and other Microsoft office suites (i.e. Excel, Word).
