ACEGID Immortalises Herbert Wigwe for his Contributions to Humanity

As we count down to the ACEGID’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, the management and staff of ACEGID, led by Prof. Christian Happi, today 4th, October 2024, held a memorial event in honor of the late Dr. Herbert Wigwe for his outstanding support towards for the centre and his immense contributions to humanity.

The event had in attendance dignitaries and diverse stakeholders including the Osun State Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, the Founder of the Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Wigwe family duly represented by Mr. Emeka Wigwe; the management and staff of Access Bank Holdings Plc, led by the Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Chizoma Okoli, were also onsite together with the hosting institution, Redeemer’s University management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, among other university staff.

Dignitaries present showered encomiums on the late Herbert Wigwe, emphasizing his selflessness, sacrifices, commitment, humility, love, and all he stood for. The event culminated in the unveiling of the memorial fountain and garden, which, according to Prof. Christian Happi, “will be a place of reflection and reminder of Dr. Wigwe’s impact in Nigeria, Africa, and the world. It will also be a place to gather as a community in years to come.”

“Water is unstoppable no matter what,” said Prof. Happi while further describing the essence of the fountain and garden at the memorial of the late Dr. Wigwe, “this is symbolic of the spirit and character of Herbert.” He also noted that just like flowers are beautiful, not just for themselves but for others, Dr. Wigwe lived his life for others. Hence, the garden.

Speaker after speaker challenged everyone to carry on the legacy of Herbert Wigwe, centered on kindness, positive thinking, resilience, and unwavering support and dedication to a better and healthier world, doting on how the deceased was big on the world and the role of Africa in it.
