My name is Oluwaremilekun Grace Ajakaye (PhD). I stumbled on ACEGID Genomics training while looking for an online Master’s Program in Public Health. I had never heard of ACEGID nor the genomics bootcamp and I could not find any past alumni. I decided to “gamble” as I called it then and I won a jackpot!
It turned out to be one of the most enriching training sessions I have ever had. The training changed my career landscape and provided the foundation I was seeking for. The training was excellently packaged with many hands-on opportunities. The trainers were so patient and kind. They made me feel capable and were willing to answer all my questions. The extra perks like the grant writing class, paper review etc. made the training a unique one.

I went the extra mile of writing a grant proposal using the knowledge I gained during the training. It did not get funded, but the second one was successful and then I got a postdoc fellowship to train in the USA. ACEGID Genomics Bootcamp propelled my career in the right direction and launched it as well.
My most exciting moment in relation to the bootcamp was in 2022 when I met three of the trainers at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene conference. It was such a rewarding moment for all of us as we chatted about the 2019 training experience and how much difference it had made in my career.
My advice is that you behave like a child in a candy store during this training. Grab all the knowledge you can. It will surely help you become a better scientist both in knowledge and personality.
